Basic Eligibility Requirements for Financial Aid

Overview of the Financial Aid Process

To qualify for financial aid, a student must:

  • Be accepted for enrollment in an eligible degree or certificate program.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Not owe a repayment on a financial aid grant. Not be in default on a student loan. If male, you must be registered with Selective Service or provide documentation from Selective Service that you are not/were not required to register. (Federal law requires males to register with Selective Service between the ages of 18-25.)
  • Have financial need.

Types of Federal Student Aid

The following programs are not eligible for traditional financial aid: 

Students can receive funding for only one program at a time. Financial aid for a second program will not be awarded until the student’s academic transcript is updated to show that the student graduated from the first program.
