MLK Welcome Walk for our Beloved Community: Saturday, January 11 from 12-3pm
From the City of Lakewood: The community is invited to come together for the MLK Welcome Walk for our Beloved Community on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 from 12-3 p.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park, 8714 87th Ave SW, Lakewood. The event will include an opportunity for people to connect with friends and meet new people. We’ll have welcome guides to show you where to go when you arrive. Walks are planned around the one-mile paved Waughop Lake trail in the park. There will be staggered start times. Along the lake path various traits of a Beloved Community will be shared, prompting people to think about how they can incorporate these traits into their everyday lives.
Participants will enjoy live music from DJ Super Dave, vendors and food trucks. There will be free giveaways of Beloved Community SWAG, including mugs, tote bags, buttons and bookmarks.

In celebration of National Rubber Ducky Day, the Department of Student Life is excited to host their annual Rubber Duck Scavenger Hunt! This event takes place Monday, January 13-Thursday, January 16.
There will be 500 rubber ducks hidden around the lakewood campus. Find one, or more, and bring them to the SLSC to claim a prize!
There are also six special character ducks that will be hidden around campus. Find one of these and bring it to the SLSC for a grand prize! You will know if its a special character duck because it will have a star on the bottom of it.
The scavenger hunt will conclude when all ducks have been found, or by January 16, whichever occurs fitst.
Ducks will be hidden both indoors and outdoors!

- Students who find more than one duck will NOT receive a prize per rubber duck
- However, the student who finds the MOST rubber ducks will receive a grand prize
- Students who find a special charater duck will also receive a grand prize

Join us for a great afternoon of ice skating on Saturday, January 25 from 11:30am - 1:30pm. This event is FREE for current CPTC students. Every year the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) hosts their annual lunar new year event. This year the event will feature India! This annual celebration will take place on Saturday, February 15 from 11am-6pm at the Tacoma Doma Exhibition Hall.
This free family event will feature cultural arts, games, crafts, performances, demos, hands-on activities, non-profit booths, retails booths, kid friendly activities, fashion, martial arts, food booths and more!

Did you know that ONE pint of blood can save THREE lives? Student Life is partnering with Bloodworks Northwest to host a blood drive on Tuesday, February 35. Students, employees, and community members can sign up to donate blood between 9am-3pm. Sign up is preferred, though walk-ins may be available. Our goal is to secure 51 donors. Help us reach that goal and sign up for a spot today!
- All current CPTC students (taking classes in winter 2025) who sign up for a spot, and show up to their appointment, will receive a $15 AMC Movie gift card.
- Donors ages 16-17 will need their parent or guardian to sign a permission form in advance. Permission forms are available at the Student Leadership & Service Center (SLSC).
